Accident Lawyers & Personal Injury Law Firms
Certification and specialization are entirely different concepts. Accident lawyers may be certified by
the state bar, or alternatively, may voluntarily limit their practice to accident cases. Many personal
injury Law Firms are considered "boutique practices" because the firm's specialization may be further
limited to a single niche. Boutique firms focusing on auto accident cases, medical malpractice cases, or
workers compensation cases are common.
Certified Accident Lawyers
Certification requires an individual lawyer to pass an additional written examination by the state bar
and usually requires the positive recommendation of other lawyers who have opposed the applicant at trial.
Conversely, specialization refers to a choice made by individual lawyers or firms to limit their practice to a specific
area of the law.
Further, specialization does not require state bar approval. Many auto accident lawyers -
whether certified or not - also handle a wide assortment of other types of contingent fee cases.
